The Dallas Cowboys were in a fit and frenzy this past week with the media.  Terrell Owens is whining and crying and pointing fingers.  Tony Romo is making errant passes. (Many fans claiming, “Tony Romo sucks!”  Jason Witten can’t catch the ball.

It seems those complaints and worries are over – at least for another week – for Dallas Cowboy fans as the Cowboys beat the New York Giants at home 20-8. This was the Cowboys second game vs. the Giants this season.

The stat sheets don’t say too much – Terrell Owens had 3 catches for 38 yards – Jason Witten had 5 catches for 44 yards.  In fact, Tony Romo did a wonderful job of spreading out the ball as he hit 9 different receivers on his 20 completions.

For all viewers of the Cowboys saga, there’s one play that stands out more than any – on 3rd and 9 from the Giants 49 yard line with just over 2:35 on the clock, the Cowboys faced a critical situation.  Either they convert the 3rd down, after the Giants used all their timeouts, or they punt.  In other words, basically the whole game came down to this play.  (At least that’s what my hubbie thinks!)

So, on this crucial 3rd and 9 play – who did Tony Romo turn to?  Terrell Owens?  T.O. – the whining superstar?  Or, Jason Witten – the guy with multiple drops over the past couple games?

Tony Romo chose Jason Witten.  Witten made an exciting catch and stretched past the first down marker as the Giants defender was wrapped around his legs.  Result of the play?  Dallas Cowboys first down – game over.

Jerry Jones has to be elated with the win.  The Cowboys still have a long ways to go – but the playoffs are within their grasp.

Know this much NFL fans, when the going gets tough – Tony Romo goes to Jason Witten.
