QB Colt McCoy and the Texas Longhorns crush QB Sam Bradford and the Oklahoma Sooners – college football rivalry games Red River Shootout
Bump bum bum – “Another one bites the dust….and another one gone, another one gone, another one bites the dust”…….
Just like Queen’s number 1 hit, college football’s number #1 ranked teams don’t stay up there for long. First USC falls to Oregon State. Then Georgia falls to Alabama in the “blackout”. And now – Oklahoma falls to Texas. Ah yes, welcome to college football!
Despite throwing for 388 yards and 5 touchdowns, Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford and the Oklahoma Sooners were unable to top Texas quarterback Colt McCoy and the Texas Longhorns. While the Heisman trophy still looks to be in Sam Bradford’s grasp, it’s apparent that the National Championship trophy is not. Texas won the bitter rivalry game 45-35 and have won 3 of the last 4 in the Red River Shootout.
When Oklahoma linebacker Ryan Reynolds, OU’s leading tackler, went down with an injury with 7 minutes left in the 3rd quarter, Oklahoma simply fell apart defensively. (Oklahoma defense sucks!) They couldn’t stop the run or the pass from that point on in the game.
Texas quarterback Colt McCoy performed with confidence and poise throughout the game. He made electric plays with his feet as well as his accurate arm. With his performance, he moved up on the Heisman watch list as well.
Texas head coach Mack Brown has Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops number now. Vince Young put Texas over the top – Colt McCoy is keeping them there.
Here are some key plays in the 4th quarter:
3rd and 8 with 7:48 left in the 4th quarter. Colt McCoy hits Jordan Shipley for 37-yard gain inside the 1.
On 3rd and 3 with 5:18 left in the 4th – Colt McCoy complete to Chris Ogbonnaya out of the backfield for the first down. Tremendous poise by McCoy as Ogbonnaya was his 4th receiver in the progression.
On the next play, Chris Ogbonnayah ripped open a huge run for 63 yard run which led to another Texas TD.
On 4th and 8 with 2:31 left in the 4th, Sam Bradford throws incomplete to Iglesias and Texas, on the change of possession, runs the clock down inside 1 minute before punting.
Game over.
Sorry Oklahoma. Texas put an old fashioned butt whoopin’ on your team. The race for the college football’s national championship continues to rage on at mach speed.
Who’s going to be number #1 now?
